"The best thing is the flexibility for people to develop and fulfill their potential in interesting and unexpected directions."
I joined WoodMac in July 2003. Before that I graduated with a degree in Computing and went on to work in finance for a civil service department. My plan had been to train as an accountant but when I came across the opportunity to work for Wood Mackenzie I felt I could not turn it down. My current role at WoodMac lies in Product Development within the Gas and Power Research team.
I initially joined WoodMac as a Data Analyst working in Energy Consulting. I assisted the consultants in collecting, manipulating and delivering data on consulting projects. This coupled the skills I had brought from my education with the knowledge of the energy industry I was developing.
My work as a Data Analyst gave me the opportunity collaborate with many people and ultimately led to a secondment to the development of a Gas and Power Research service.
My second spell as a Data Analyst in Energy Consulting allowed me to gain experience in developing optimization models and designing tools for data analysis. From there I became involved with the development of a major new Gas and Power Research product. After over two years working on the product I now take a lead role in the development of a new Gas and Power Research offering.
WoodMac is a good place to work, the atmosphere is friendly yet professional and the subject matter is both interesting and incredibly important. But perhaps the best thing is the flexibility for people to develop and fulfill their potential in interesting and unexpected directions.
My future at WoodMac involves continuing to develop my current skills and to take more responsibility for the projects I work on. There are still many challenges I am keen to tackle.
