"Covering different geographical regions allowed me to broaden my understanding of the upstream industry and presented great opportunities for travel, meeting clients and getting involved in consulting projects."
I joined Wood Mackenzie in 1991 after graduating with a BA Honours in Interpreting and Translating (Russian and German) from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
In the early part of my career, I was an upstream analyst - firstly covering the Former Soviet Union and then the Middle East - working in small and close-knit teams. My learning of the industry was achieved on the job and through training courses. Covering different geographical regions allowed me to broaden my understanding of the upstream industry and presented great opportunities for travel, meeting clients and getting involved in consulting projects. In 2001, I became the Manager of our Africa Upstream Research Team and during this time I had the opportunity to develop and refine my people and project management skills and grow a high-performing team.
In late 2007, I took up a newly-created position in the company: Head of Energy Information. This means I’m responsible for directing and enhancing our Upstream Database and Systems and project managing the delivery of a new integrated Energy Database for Wood Mackenzie. In my role I work closely with the appropriate business teams and Technology, but as my reach extends across all sectors of the energy business, I interact daily with colleagues who possess a variety of different skills and backgrounds.
