"Working in one of Wood Mackenzie’s Upstream Research teams provides the platform to be regarded as an authority on the region, while the accompanying consulting allows engagement with clients at a senior level."
I joined Wood Mackenzie in September 2004 as a Research Analyst in the Australasian Upstream Research team. I graduated with a degree in geology and prior to joining Wood Mackenzie my experience ranged from supervising a demolition team in Australia, retail banking in London to finally working as a geologist and drilling engineer in the North Sea for a service company.
Initially at Wood Mackenzie I was responsible for writing commercial analyses on the oil and gas fields in the region. This enabled me to apply my technical knowledge of the upstream industry, but it gave me the opportunity to develop my commercial awareness and understanding of project economics.
In November 2005, I took on the role of Lead Analyst for Australasia. As well as being responsible for the all the research produced by the team, I am increasingly involved in consultancy projects focused on the region. These include opportunity screening studies, entry strategies and competitor reviews.
Working in one of Wood Mackenzie’s Upstream Research teams provides the platform to be regarded as an authority on the region, while the accompanying consulting allows engagement with clients at a senior level. This balance gives a varied and stimulating working day.
In early 2008, the Australasian Upstream Research team made the move from Edinburgh to be based in Perth, Western Australia. While we will still be travelling within the region to maintain our contact with industry executives, we are now located in one of the key energy cities globally and we are enjoying being closer to the action.
