"Working within Wood Mackenzie’s Upstream Research teams provides the platform to develop yourself as an authority on the region, whilst the accompanying consulting allows engagement with clients at a senior level."
I joined Wood Mackenzie in 2004 as a Research Analyst in the Australasian Upstream Research team after graduating with a degree in geology. My work experience prior to joining included supervising a demolition team in Australia, backroom banking in London and most recently working as a geologist and drilling engineer in the North Sea for a service company.
Initially at Wood Mackenzie I was responsible for writing commercial analyses on the oil and gas fields in the Australasia. This enabled me to draw from my technical knowledge of the industry, but also to develop my commercial awareness and understanding of project economics, fiscal regimes and global commodity prices.
I soon progressed into the role of Lead Analyst which made me responsible for all the research produced by the team and greatly increased my involvement in consultancy projects focused on the region. These included opportunity screening studies, entry strategies, market analysis, asset valuations and competitor reviews.
In March 2010, I took over the Lead Analyst role for the Middle East, North Africa and the Indian Subcontinent with the view of broadening my understanding of the oil industry.
Working within Wood Mackenzie’s Upstream Research teams provides the platform to develop yourself as an authority on the region, whilst the accompanying consulting allows engagement with clients at a senior level. This balance gives a varied and stimulating working day.
